I don't think anyone here can tell you why it was underrated, as we don't know the exact reasons. In my opinion, it was down to the ridiculous amount of hype it was getting before release, and the amount it had to live up. Expectations were so high from SM64, that it wasn't likely to be a massive hit anyway (although it was successful in it's own right). I personally loved it, some hated it. There's no definitive reason that it was underrated. Hope i helped to clear it up slightly - Chazza | |

| Here's the thing: I love this game. You can't NOT love it, as it's a Mario platformer. It had unforgettable moments, like King Boo in a Casino, Bowser's 1st Voice, the a capella Mario theme in the secrets, etc.... HOWEVAH, there was one problem that rather bothered me, and it is why this is my least favorite out of the three 3D Mario platformers to date: FLUDD. I did not enjoy the FLUDD mechanic in this game, because it babied you around too much. Mario, for me, has always been about running around, doing crazy jumping stunts and such. The idea of Mario using a tool to assist his jumping made it lose the familiar mechanic that SM64 gave me. It was an interesting idea for Nintendo to play around with, but it didn't work out in my opinion. The game is still good, though, and I love several aspects of it(ESPECIALLY the FLUDD-less "secret" levels). I'm glad they returned to just-Mario by himself in Galaxy. Anyways, yeah. That's why Sunshine is my least favorite of those 3 Mario games (granted, it's still a good game). Also, Blue Coins = | |
